Waving Goodbye
Offenbar ist auch Google der Ansicht, dass EtherPad als Werkzeug für die gemeinsame Bearbeitung von Texten sehr gelungen ist – jedenfalls hat das Imperium den EtherPad-Anbieter AppJet gekauft.
Die Entwickler werden ins Google Wave-Team integriert, was Glenn Fleishman als positive Perspektive für die Wave interpretiert:
I've been using [Google Wave] for some weeks, and still find it baffling, where EtherPad was instantly explicable and useful (perhaps because it was so similar to SubEthaEdit, which pioneered simultaneous collaborative editing). I hope the AppJet team brings its approach with them.
Das ist sehr optimistisch. Ich halte es eher mit John Gruber:
If you want my opinion, it ought to be the other way around: keep EtherPad going and abandon Wave.
Update: Google stellt die EtherPad-Technologie unter einer Open Source-Lizenz zur Verfügung.
